Go To Become

I live in a big city

the biggest in the world by some measure

I am a foreigner here

very much so

at times I feel trapped, alienated and lonely

amongst the millions of people calling this their home

Winner of the U.S Vogue New Exposure Award in 2013 it took until 2017 before Go To Become was published as a book. By then I had aquatinted Mutsuo Takahashi, one of Japan’s most prolific poets and essayists. Takahashi wrote original poetry for the book and the title is from the English translation. These images were all photographed in central Tokyo, not far from my home in Shibuya, at my sanctuaries, where I find peace.
