Looking Up

created during - and relating to - the Covid pandemic and my ensuing battle with cancer.

Airplanes in the skies over Tokyo depicted in otherworldly hues - compelled by a lucid dream the works are solarized - a subconscious call implying great transformative powers of the sun. Each dramatic approach of an airplane, repetitive but unique scenes playing out high in the azure, evoke a sense of awe. Looking Up gave me strength and reason to keep going while longing for freedom of movement - to again be able to explore unfamiliar countries and cultures and reconnect with friends and family far away.

Looking Up was exhibited at Ken Nakahashi Gallery and also published as a limited edition monograph in May 2022. The book includes an essay and a soundtrack; a different tune for each spread.
